Winner of the 2003 Queensland Tourism Award for Best Tourism Winery, Albert River Wines is one of Queensland's most successful boutique wineries, and is located at one of the State's oldest properties - Tamborine House encompassing a total of 135 acres. With over 30 national and international wine show medals in under 3 years, their range of wines is handcrafted in limited quantities by wine maker Peter Scudamore-Smith, one of Queensland's two Masters of Wine. The Winery is owned and operated by former airline marketing executives David & Janette Bladin. The Bladins purchased the property in 1995 and the first vines were planted in 1998.

As well as creating an environment in which people feel comfortable learning more about wine and food matching, they have sought to generally de-mystify wine. In 1998, the Bladins purchased Auchenflower House from Early Street Historical Village and spent most of 1998 restoring this grand old lady of Queensland history to its former glory.

This historic homestead, circa 1886, was the home of no less than three former Queensland Premiers, as well as being home to the Carmelite nuns from 1926 until 1965. Auchenflower is now the heart and soul of Albert River Wines, housing both the Cellar Door Sales and Tasting Rooms, as well as the award-winning Winery restaurant.

Both the vineyard and the winery are situated high on the hill with panoramic views of the Albert River Valley and Tamborine Mountain. Terrior is what the French call that magical combination of the right soil and weather conditions so essential to producing good wine grapes. At Albert River Wines, well- drained river loam above a sandstone base combined with a cool mountain breeze and long sunny days, provide an ideal micro-climate in which the specially-selected Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, and Viognier grapes flourish. A rare corkscrew collection from the United States is now on permanent display at the Winery.
